The Ontario Home Care Association welcomes new members. Organizations successfully achieving membership in OHCA comply with OHCA standards; endorse OHCA's statement of values; and comply with operational indicators of excellence for home care.

The Ontario Home Care Association:

• Is a recognized leader and voice for Home Care in Ontario presenting OHCA members as credible and credentialed businesses to consumers who wish to receive publicly funded services and/or purchase home and community care services privately. OHCA works to ensure that government decisions include consideration of member interests.
• Advocates for members' interests to ensure government support is evidenced in policy, legislation and practice for a strong home care system that is procured through a process that is fair, equitable and transparent.
• Presents at various government committees including the Ontario Pre-Budget Consultation sessions and the Standing Committee on Social Affairs.
• Regularly meets with government politicians and bureaucrats to ensure that provincial resources are used to support a strong home care system.
• Takes industry concerns to government on issues such as the needle safety regulation, regulation of PSWs, pandemic influenza planning, employment standards, health human resources strategy and changes to taxation regulation.
• Shares a Balanced Scorecard Report to the Community based on OHCA's Standards for Home Health Care Service Agencies and Quality Template giving added credibility to members and their pursuit of excellence in care delivery.
• Accesses government funding and training funding for members, such as the Ontario government's Alzheimer's training program and initiatives from the Nursing Secretariat.
• Is a source of information about government activities that can affect OHCA members, such as, the Ontario E-health strategy, the Local Health Integration Networks, CCAC Procurement practices, primary health care strategy, labour regulations, budget and finance decisions.
• Publishes Association position papers on behalf of members independently and with other sectors within health care.
• Speaks out on issues on behalf of members in the media.
• Provides members only with a bi-monthly Executive Director's report which highlights new and emerging issues that help members position in the marketplace.
• Links members and potential clients or employees through customized searches on the OHCA website - only OHCA members have direct links to the consumer from the OHCA site.
• Provides members networking opportunities with colleagues in the industry.
• Produces packages of current and relevant information affecting health care and private sector providers.
• Markets members' services to referral sources.
• Advocates at dozens of important forums addressing Home Care.
• Maintains links to significant government and stakeholder web pages including, but not limited, to the Ministry of Health & Long-Term Care, the Ontario Hospital Association, the Ontario Medical Association portal pages, the Ontario College of Family Physicians and the LHINs.
• Arranges for continuing education on relevant and timely issues, including, including human resource and employee recruitment and retention issues, elect-to-work, creating value, accreditation.
• Offers preferential rates for employee benefits and discounts to members for workshops, conferences, publications.
• Arranges for fee reductions for members, such as established with Accreditation Canada for those seeking accreditation.
• Liaises with the Canadian Home Care Association as an avenue to maintaining federal linkages. ...and much more...
