Links to three announcements can be found at the end of this message.

Orders were issued today by Deputy Premier and Minister of Health C. Elliott to transfer the health system planning, functions and non-patient care functions from the LHINs to Ontario Health, effective April 1, 2021.  Also included in the order was the transfer of Trillium Gift of Life Network to Ontario Health.

The Memo from Ontario Health CEO Matt Anderson advised that the LHINs will have a new name - Home and Community Care Support Services - and indicated that the name will change but services and contact information will remain the same.  There will be no impact to direct patient care.

LHIN employees who provide patient care will continue to work within their respective LHINs under the new name. These Home and Community Care Support Services organizations (LHINs) will continue to be Crown agencies funded through accountability agreements with the Ministry of Health.  Home care contracts with SPOs will continue to be held and administered by the Home and Community Care Support Services organizations.

There will be no changes to how patients access home and community care or long-term care home placement services, nor will there be changes to their contracts.

The LHINs will have the same Board and leadership will continue to be provided by the Home and Community Care Support Services CEOs who are cross-appointed to Ontario Health Regional Leads, reporting to M. Anderson, while work continues with the Ministry of Health on the next phase for these agencies.

After the April 1, 2021 transfer, the 14 LHIN Boards will remain in place including their Directors, to provide governance and oversight for the interim home care organizations.  It is anticipated that a new Board will be established on July 1, 2021 and cross-appointed to all 14 Home and Community Care Support Services organizations.

Additional details regarding the leadership and governance for Home and Community Care Support Services will be provided at later date.
